OPERATION BACKPACK

On the first Thursday of the month, volunteers assemble weekend food sacks through Operation Backpack with Topeka North Outreach for children in need that attend North Topeka & Oakland elementary & middle schools. It takes 1 – 2 hours, once per month to fill 3,000 sacks with food. For some, it is the only food they will have until they get to school on Monday.

Sacks are distributed on Fridays to ensure children have food EVERY day of the week.  This program supplements the free and reduced-price meals the students receive so they have food on the weekends.

You don’t need special skills, just a willing heart. Age 7 & up (with an adult) can serve, making this a perfect opportunity for multigenerational families, small groups, or anyone who wants to make a difference.

👉 Be the reason a child doesn’t go hungry this weekend.
